FANCIES AND PONDERINGS
ERNESTINE (HANNA) LUTES was a remarkable lady.
Shown above as a lovely young woman and in 1963 with her beloved Louis. As the mother of 13 high-spirited children she found time to quilt, bake bread, write poetry and produce a weekly column for the local newspapers. Her columns, first entitled "FRIENDLY FANCIES" appeared in the Sherman County Times from about 1956 to 72. Later as "JUST PONDERING" the columns were printed in the Tryon Graphic from about 1975 to 1985.
Sadly, we do not have a full collection of the writings and many of the ones we do have are very difficult to read. Mother Lutes preserved many of the columns but did not record dates on most. (If anyone has better copies of any of these, or issues I do not have, please contact me so that I can add them to the collection.)
The groups here are not well categorized and several are portions of articles. Clicking on the title lines in the boxes below will bring up a web page with frames allowing you to select and view larger versions of the images by clicking on the thumbnail versions on the left side of the page. Each box below also has a link to a PDF file that contains even larger images of the entire group at once. These are very large files but much more readable in the PDF format. You may download a free PDF Reader by clicking here. Please enjoy and let me know any comments you may have.
(I think the first two index
pages here are the index to
the entire collection. HELP)
